The tire also has a 50,000-mile limited treadwear warranty. This is commendable. However, it is not the tire with the longest tread life in its class. It is due to other soft rubber compounds used in the tire. Furthermore, this tire delivers relatively fewer miles than other all-terrain competitors.
Nevertheless, the tire comes with a 580 treadwear rating, which indicates average durability. The sidewalls are protected from punctures by the added chunks of tread blocks. What more? The tire is built with chips and cuts resistance for confident rides in rugged areas.
Off-Road Performance
Although the Wrangler Workhorse AT is built for all terrains, its off-road performance is not the best in its category. Some of its competitors do better in this area.
When it comes to traction performance, there is a slight imbalance. I discovered that the tire’s dirt and gravel traction is better than the mud and sand traction. However, let’s see how well the Goodyear Wrangler Workhorse AT delivers in these conditions.
o Gravel: The tire is built with the capacity for high speeds on sharp gravel roads. It features a unique composition that helps to resist chips and cuts. You can be sure of excellent grip due to its aggressive tread pattern with many groves and blocks.
o Mud: The tire performs well in light mud but struggles in thick mud. This is because of the absence of wide-open tread blocks. Furthermore, the tire has mini ridges within its grooves. This helps to break particles apart for easier evacuation. Again, it excels in sticky soil and water. Unfortunately, you’ll struggle with this tire in deeper mud. It is not a substitute for specialized mud-terrain tires.
o Sand: The Wrangler Workhorse AT tire performs well in sand. Thanks to its footprint and lightweight. However, while it excels in shallow sandy tracks, it may not do well in deep dunes.
o Rocks: The tire’s horseshoe-shaped lugs offer excellent multi-direction grip. This is an advantage for rock climbing. Talking about rock climbing, the tire sticks to the rock without breaking apart. This is the work of the softer lugs with a supporting rubber layer underneath. However, due to the soft compounds used in the tire, this tire’s tread cannot withstand the harshness of sharp rocks and wear quite early if used extensively. There are much better rock tires available if you need them.
Dry Traction
The Goodyear Wrangler Workhorse AT tire is a master in road traction. It is quite firmer on the road than some other tires in its category. Its big tread blocks offer a commendable rubber-to-road contact. This helps to ensure an excellent grip and dry conditions.
Based on a user’s feedback, the steering gave some slight play around the center at low speeds. However, it later turned out to be solid and responsive at highway speeds.
Furthermore, this tire’s tread is manufactured with a dual compound, enhancing its braking distance on dry surfaces. Its closed-up rib in the middle area provides excellent directional stability.
When cornering, its sides meet the pavement the most. This helps to provide good rigidity without too much hardness. What more? Its lightweight plays a vital role in its steering response, especially on highways.
You can be sure of dominant control regardless of a change in direction. The tire has a responsive design. Hence, you can enjoy a great steering response in lateral traction on dry roads. Lastly, the tire delivers an extraordinary performance even at high acceleration rates.

Most all-terrain tires do not have a great wet traction performance. Well, the Goodyear Workhorse is not different. It has an average traction in wet conditions.

The tire’s light and deep snow performance is arguably one of the best. Hundreds of satisfied users cannot be wrong! However, it’s not the best at handling ice. In this case, I would recommend dedicated winter tires.
Fuel Efficiency
Rolling resistance is the major factor affecting fuel efficiency when it comes to vehicle tires. The Workhorse AT tire has a relatively low rolling resistance. This is partly due to the absence of cap plies. Therefore, you will eventually enjoy fuel economy. Also, the computer-optimized tread pattern enhances even wear. This also contributes to fuel economy.
Noise and Comfort
The Wrangler Workhorse AT is not very quiet compared to touring and standard touring tires. However, it is not also very loud compared to other all-terrain tires. Thanks to its pitch sequencing, which helps to ensure on-road quietness.
Furthermore, each of the tire’s tread block’s tone varies, thereby minimizing noise. You may experience slight cavity noise and distant tread growl when going over most surfaces. However, the noise level is not such that can distract a driver. Well, I will say that it is a well-mannered tire.

The Wrangler Workhorse AT has some similar features to that of the Goodyear Wrangler Trailrunner AT. The tire provides a more composed feel compared to Trailrunner AT. However, its performance on rock and mud is not as good as BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2.
The Falken WildPeak A/T3W and Firestone Destination A/T2 are better than the Wrangler Workhorse AT in terms of wet-weather traction. Also, they have a more competitive tread life.
Despite its limitations, I think the Goodyear Wrangler Workhorse AT is an all-around tire. If you’re looking for quality light truck tires that can work as an all-season and all-terrain, the Workhorse is a nice choice.
